2026 Tobacco marketing season opens April 20

The Tobacco Commission has announced the opening of the 2026 tobacco marketing season on Monday, April 20th in Lilongwe.

Chinkhoma and Limbe Floors are planned to open on 21st and 23rd April, respectively.

In Mzuzu, tobacco trading is scheduled to roll out on 5th May.

In 2026, production is projected at 197 million kilogrammes, according to a tobacco estimates survey conducted nationwide some weeks ago. Trade demand stands at 170 million kilogrammes.

Last year, 221 million kilogrammes of tobacco valued at $542 million was sold at an average price of $2.45/kg.

Eight buying companies are expected to buy tobacco from the floors this marketing season.
