The sales committee of the tobacco industry in Malawi has proposed that the 2024 tobacco selling season close early August.
At its meeting on July 9, the committee comprising various industry players agreed to have Chinkhoma floors close on July 12, Lilongwe and Limbe on July 19 and Mzuzu floors on August 2.
Mzuzu Selling Floors will close last as trading in the northern region started late.
The selling season which was opened on April 15 will close after 16 weeks of trading.
The Tobacco Commission has since rated the 2024 selling season as one of the best in recent years in view of unprecedented prices and smooth trading.
Meanwhile, as of Thursday July 11, 123.4 million kilogrammes of tobacco valued at $367.1million had been sold at an average price of $2.95 per kg.
