Tobacco sales at Chinkhoma and Lilongwe Floors extended

The Tobacco Commission on Friday extended the 2025 selling period for Chinkhoma and Lilongwe Floors.

Sales at Chinkhoma and Lilongwe Floors were due to close on 15th and 20th August, respectively.

With the extension, Chinkhoma will now close on 22nd August and Lilongwe on 29th.

The Commission had received reports of volumes of unsold tobacco which could not have been sold if the two floors had closed as planned.

The extension was decided to allow farmers to sell all their tobacco.

Limbe Floors closed on 8th August. Mzuzu will close on 29th August as announced earlier.

As of 15th August, 197.2 million kilogrammes of tobacco valued at US$500.4 million had been sold at an average price of US$2.54 per kilogramme.

Production in 2025 has been unprecedented. At 197.2 million kilogrammes, the volume is the highest in Malawi in six years.
