TOBACCO SELLING SEASON CLOSING OCTOBER 24

The 2025 tobacco selling season is set to close on October 24 after 29 weeks of trading in a year with the highest production in 14 years.

Limbe Floors in the southern region already closed on 8th August.

However, the closure of Lilongwe, Chinkhoma and Mzuzu Floors was postponed to allow farmers to sell all their crop.

Lilongwe and Chinkhoma are now scheduled to close on 8th October, followed by Mzuzu on 24th.

Meanwhile, by October 3, up to 215 million kilograms of tobacco valued at $533.6 million had been sold at an average price of $2.48 per kilogram.

Another record volume was registered in 2011 when the country produced 237 million kilograms.

A total of ten companies, two of them Malawian, have been buying tobacco this season.

The 2025 selling season kicked off on April 9.
